PALMA — A 33-year-old Romanian national has appeared in court following his arrest for the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old British boy at a hotel swimming pool in the Majorcan resort of Magaluf.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, May 20, unfolded in full view of horrified holidaymakers. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect approach the young child before unexpectedly hugging him and kissing him on the face.
Swift Intervention and Arrest
The boy’s mother immediately intervened, confronting the man and forcing him to back away. Alerted by the commotion and the distress of onlookers, hotel staff promptly contacted local police operating under the Calvia Town Hall jurisdiction.
Guardia Civil officers arrived at the scene shortly after, taking formal statements from the child’s parents and several eyewitnesses who had been relaxing by the poolside. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of sexual assault and spent Wednesday night in a police cell.
Court Appearance
On Thursday afternoon, May 21, the handcuffed suspect was escorted into a Palma court by two Civil Guard officers. Observers noted he was still dressed in the same shirt, shorts, and sandals he wore at the time of his poolside arrest.
The initial legal proceedings were conducted behind closed doors, a standard practice in cases involving minors. It remains unconfirmed whether the investigating judge has remanded the suspect in custody or released him on bail pending further inquiries.
Following the deeply distressing event, the British family has departed Majorca and returned to the United Kingdom. It is currently unclear whether they cut their holiday short or left as originally scheduled. Local authorities continue their investigation
