NANYUKI, Kenya – For decades, they were the “invisible” children of Nanyuki—mixed-race youngsters with lighter skin and missing histories, living in the shadow of the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK). ​A BBC World Service investigation has revealed that at least 20 men—19 British soldiers and one contractor—have been identified as the fathers of children born near the military base. In a historic move, the UK’s highest Family Court judge has already legally confirmed paternity in 12 of these cases.
