LAGOS – Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, a former two-term councilor in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, following a high-stakes raid on his residence.
The 45-year-old suspect, who until his arrest served as a legislative aide, was taken into custody on Monday, March 2nd, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence regarding a sophisticated drug trafficking network, anti-narcotic officers stormed Olalekan’s home in the Ilado area of Ibeju-Lekki.
During a meticulous search of the premises, agency officials recovered approximately 40 kilograms of “skunk”—a potent, high-grade strain of cannabis—concealed within one of the rooms.
The NDLEA confirmed that Olalekan has since provided a voluntary statement. In his confession, the suspect admitted to owning the illicit substances and the property where they were found. He further detailed his political history, noting his previous tenure representing the Orimedu community for two terms at the local council level.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the local political landscape, highlighting the agency’s intensified crackdown on high-profile individuals linked to the narcotics trade. Olalekan remains in custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of his distribution network and potential accomplices within the region.
