Dogs kill two-year-old boy at Georgia daycare

A woman in Georgia has been arrested after two Rottweilers fatally attacked a 2-year-old boy, Kaimir Jones, in her care while she slept for hours.

Police said Jones was found dead in the backyard of 48-year-old Stacy Wheeler Cobb’s home around 3.45pm on Saturday, October 5.

The Valdosta Police Department confirmed the details in a press release on Monday.

Investigators believe Kaimir got out of the house while Cobb was taking a long nap and managed to unlock the kennel where the Rottweilers were kept.

According to police, Kaimir’s mother had left him with Cobb and he was the only child there on the day of the incident.

Officials also revealed that Cobb often kept up to 10 children at a time, even though her daycare was allegedly unlicensed.

Cobb told officers she “thought the child was well” while she napped for more than two hours.

Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan said, “This is a horrible and tragic event that should have never occurred, but because of negligence on this offender’s behalf, a mother has tragically lost a child. I want to express our department’s deepest sympathy to the family.

“No words will ever ease their pain, but our hearts go out to them during this unimaginably difficult time. I also keep our first responders in my prayers, as they continue processing their response to this tragic scene.”

Cobb now faces charges of second-degree murder and cruelty to children.

The two Rottweilers, along with a third dog, were handed over to Lowndes County Animal Control.

Kaimir’s mother, Adrianna Jones, wrote on GoFundMe that her “intuition” led her to leave work early and check on her son after hours without hearing from Cobb.

“This was a heartbreaking, devastating, and traumatising scene that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I found my baby like this,” she wrote, adding that Cobb had been “highly recommended.”

In November, the Lagos State Police Command arrested the owner of three dogs that reportedly mauled a security guard to death at Pinnock Estate in Lekki.

A viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user #itzbasito showed the guard’s lifeless body on the ground as the Boerboel dogs moved around him.

According to the post, the dogs were let loose unknowingly by their owner on Monday night, leading to the fatal attack.
