In a massive blow to illicit drug distribution networks, the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has intercepted approximately 3,180,000 capsules suspected to be Pregabalin. The operation took place within a residential apartment located at No. 13 Apple Avenue, Normansland, in the Sabon Gari area of Fagge Local Government Area.

The high-stakes raid comes barely 24 hours after Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, officially commissioned the state’s newly established Rapid Response Squad (RRS) equipped with advanced tactical assets to ramp up the war against substance abuse and thuggery.

Intelligence-Led Enforcement Yields Results

According to a statement issued by Lamara Garba, Secretary of the agency’s Media and Publicity Committee, the breakthrough was achieved through credible intelligence channeled directly through the Task Force Command and Call Centre’s reporting platforms. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, tactical operatives zeroed in on the target building, uncovering the massive cache of pharmaceutical capsules.

During the operation, officers arrested a 34-year-old suspect identified as Gregory Ogbuji. Preliminary investigations link Ogbuji to Seemark Pharma Ltd, a corporate entity registered under number 2012546. Authorities have confirmed that the primary suspect has already been formally charged under Section 249 of the Penal Code, while a manhunt is actively underway to track down an accomplice currently at large.

Pregabalin Emerges as a Major Crisis

Speaking on the scale of the seizure, the Chairman of the Task Force, Muhuyi Rimin Gado, emphasized that the operation highlights the undeniable efficacy of intelligence-driven enforcement and citizen-law enforcement collaboration.

Rimin Gado raised a red flag over the widespread abuse of Pregabalin across the state, revealing sobering statistics regarding its prevalence among substance dependents.

“Pregabalin has emerged as one of the most widely abused drugs in Kano State. Its operational experience indicates that approximately eight out of every 10 drug-related operations involve suspects dependent on or abusing Pregabalin,” the chairman stated.

A Renewed Call for Public Vigilance

Issuing a stern warning to merchants of illicit substances, Rimin Gado vowed that the task force will continue to clamp down relentlessly on offenders without fear or favor. He credited the successes recorded so far to the unwavering political will and comprehensive support provided by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration under the broader “Kano First” agenda.

The agency has reiterated its call for residents to leverage its designated call centres and reporting channels to share anonymous, actionable insights concerning drug trafficking, thuggery, and criminal elements threatening community safety.
