President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to collect their Permanent Voter Cards and participate in the 2027 general elections, saying their future depends on the outcome of the poll.
The appeal was made on Saturday while addressing supporters at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the APC campaign rally, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE APPEAL
Tinubu was direct about the stakes. “To the youths of Nigeria, I am looking at you. This election is about you, it’s not on me. Your future depends on this election. This progress has no reverse gear,” he said.
He urged those who had yet to collect their PVCs to do so, stressing that the card was the instrument available to them to fight poverty through the ballot.
“It is left for you to use the weapon you have, and that weapon is the PVC. If you have not collected yours, please go ahead and collect it. Please, I beg you, I take God beg. The weapon you have against poverty is to elect progressive development of our economy. That is what I am pursuing,” he said.
THE BROADER MESSAGE
Tinubu’s appeal was part of a broader campaign pitch that focused on youth empowerment, education, and economic opportunity.
He assured the crowd that his administration was committed to creating jobs, improving education, and building a prosperous Nigeria.
“I assure you of better future, good education, skill development and jobs,” he said.
WHY IT MATTERS
Tinubu’s appeal is a recognition that the youth vote will be decisive in 2027.
Young Nigerians constitute a significant portion of the electorate, and their participation, or lack thereof—could determine the outcome of the election.
In 2023, the youth vote was widely credited with boosting support for opposition candidates, particularly Peter Obi.
By urging youths to collect their PVCs, Tinubu is attempting to mobilise a demographic that has been skeptical of his administration. Whether they will listen, and whether they will vote for him, is another matter.
The appeal has been made. The PVCs are waiting. And the future of Nigeria’s youth is on the ballot. ValidViewNetwork reports.
