Yorubaland’s Youngest Monarch Pays Homage to Ooni of Ife

My recent visit to the palace of His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the revered Oonirisa and Olori Oba Alade Gbogbo of Ile-Ife, was a profound moment of reflection on the enduring strength of our Yoruba heritage and the sacred duties borne by royal fathers across our land.

HRM Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II, the 25th Arujale-Ojima of Okeluse Kingdom in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, ascended the throne at just 16 years old in 2019 following the passing of his father, Oba Akinghare I, as the only son per local tradition. Born in 2003, the young monarch—now in his early 20s and studying Political Science at Afe Babalola University—has become a symbol of youthful leadership while upholding customs in the resource-rich community of Okeluse, known for its gold, coal, and farming heritage.​

Kabiyesi Ooni remains a towering pillar in Nigeria’s traditional institution, serving as custodian of Yoruba culture, advocate for youth empowerment, and recently named Grand Patron of Traditional Institutions in Africa by the African Union. His Imperial Majesty extended encouragement and firm support for the Okeluse throne, a gesture that underscores the vital unity among royal stools for fostering peace, stability, and progress in Yorubaland.

This homage aligns with recent interactions, including the Arujale-Ojima’s appearance at Ile-Ife’s 2026 Ajé Festival, highlighting collaborative bonds between ancient thrones. Such moments reinforce how mutual respect among traditional rulers strengthens communities, preserves cultural identity, and drives development amid modern challenges.​

From the throne of Okeluse, I pray for enduring peace and solidarity among all royal fathers in Yorubaland. May Okeluse flourish in growth, prosperity, and divine safeguard; may Ile-Ife, the Yoruba spiritual cradle, shine as a beacon of wisdom; and may the Yoruba race advance in unity, dignity, and purpose.
