The Ondo State Police Command has struck a blow against kidnapping operations in the state, following the arrest of two suspects accused of providing essential logistics to a criminal gang terrorizing the Ilu-Abo community.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Alhassan Muhammad and 25-year-old Faruq Muhammad Sanni, both residents of Sabon-Sango, Akure, were apprehended on March 15, 2026. According to police reports, the breakthrough came via a tip-off from a community member who noticed suspicious activity involving a commercial motorcyclist allegedly delivering food and supplies to kidnappers’ forest hideouts.
While the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad moved in to secure the arrests, other members of the syndicate managed to flee into the bush. Preliminary investigations suggest the duo played a pivotal role in sustaining the gang’s operations by managing their supply chain.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the Ilu-Abo community for their “vigilance and courage,” noting that such actionable intelligence is the bedrock of successful policing. He further credited IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu for providing strategic guidance that has bolstered recent operations in the state.
The suspects remain in custody and are reportedly providing “useful statements” to help detectives track down the fleeing remnants of the gang. The Command has vowed to dismantle the entire network and will charge the suspects to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
