IBADAN — A Tiktok video meant to warn neighbours turned into an alleged nightmare for one Ibadan trader.

Wasilat, daughter of Sekinat, says a mob accused her of filming the Oloolu masquerade. She insists she never even saw the masquerade that day.

Wasilat narrated her ordeal in a personal video seen and transcribed by ValidViewNetwork. Facebook user Folashade Busari shared the video clip on her Facebook page, drawing wide attention.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the transcript below comes directly from Wasilat’s own words.

The Viral Video That Sparked It All

Wasilat filmed the clip from behind her window net, she says. An Amotekun corps procession passed her street that day, not Oloolu. She captioned the video “oloolu is around Atolu” to warn residents.

Angry Tiktok commenters demanded she delete it by evening. She deleted the clip within hours, she says.

Confrontation And Arrest

A man identified only as “Sokoti” allegedly traced her to her shop. He and a companion allegedly asked if she was “Adeola ti o care”, to which she answered in the affirmative. They allegedly cursed her lineage, including her late father, ValidViewNetwork reports.

And according to Wasilat, officers of the Nigerian Police Force later arrived to take her away even as she as well as bystanders pleaded for her release and pardon. The group led by said Sokoti ignored the pleas and took her away regardless.

The men allegedly threatened to hand her to Ode Aje masquerade handlers. They allegedly invoked the Olubadan’s authority and threatened her with prison. She knelt and begged, but officers still took her to the station. She spent the night in custody before receiving bail on Saturday.

A Shrine Ritual Follows Her Release

Her Handlers reportedly instructed her mother to buy a goat, red cloth, and a razor. Wasilat carried the goat across her neck to the Ogun shrine, she says. She sat on a mortar and disrobed before tying on the red cloth. Her mother shaved her head at the shrine, she alleges. Attendants slaughtered a ram over her head, letting the blood run down her scalp.

The Coerced Live Confession

Older attendees prayed for her while younger ones hurled insults as she danced round the Ogun shrine, she says. Handlers made her dance around the shrine until the blood dried, and was told not to bath till the following day.

They then allegedly instructed her to record a false live confession. According to Wasilat, she was asked to say “she had been bleeding from the anus, private part and the ears since she saw oloolu, and that was why she was brought to the shrine for appeasement”. She insists the claim was false, and that she was not even menstruating, that they came to pick her up at her shop. A relative who objected to the video was reportedly cursed by the group as well.

Extortion Allegations

Handlers allegedly directed Wasilat’s husband to transfer ₦400,000 through an Opay account. He kept the transaction receipt as proof, she says. The group promised no further trouble and released her afterward, ValidViewNetwork reports.

Death Rumours And A Digital Resurrection

As a result of all she passed through since Friday afternoon, she grew weak due to the harassment and could not eat by Sunday, she says. She called a personal nurse to administer an IV drip at home.

False rumours of her death spread rapidly online in the meantime. A close friend allegedly reposted her shaving photo, claiming she had died.

Wasilat personally messaged worried contacts to prove she was still alive. She later found that Tiktok had deactivated her account entirely. She opened a new account and posted proof that she survived.

This report relies on Wasilat’s own recorded statement, transcribed directly by ValidViewNetwork.

From Wasilat’s account, a few minutes warning clip somehow became a shrine sacrifice and a near-fatal rumour.

Wasilat’s story tests where tradition ends and abuse of power begins. It asks how quickly rumour can outrun truth in Nigeria’s viral age.

Accountability now rests with the police, the palace, and the shrine elders she named. Their silence, or their answer, will decide what happens next.
