The controversy surrounding the “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” (PFIPC) has taken an international turn, as a US-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, LC, has offered to assist its self-styled Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, in seeking political asylum and whistleblower protection.
This development follows allegations by Adeyemi that senior Nigerian government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, were involved in the facilitation of his purported appointment and demanded financial kickbacks.
International Interest and Lobbying Intervention
Dr. Karl Von Batten, the founder of the firm, stated that his decision to intervene was based on the premise that the allegations involve the potential misappropriation of US-funded World Bank loans.
According to Von Batten, the firm has already begun briefing members of the US Congress and senior associates of President Donald Trump’s team regarding the matter. The lobbyist warned that the Nigerian government would be held accountable in the US if any harm should come to Adeyemi or his family, asserting that the allegations “warrant an investigation by Congress, the State Department, and the US Treasury”.
Presidency Maintains Denial
Despite Adeyemi’s claims, the Nigerian Presidency has remained resolute in its position that the PFIPC is a “fictitious” organization with no legal basis, presidential instrument, or executive approval.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, previously disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force filed an eight-count charge of forgery and impersonation against Adeyemi in November 2025. Government officials further alleged that Adeyemi fabricated documents to secure an office at the Federal Secretariat and fraudulently sought diplomatic support for visa applications.
Budgetary Anomaly and Ongoing Probe
The saga remains complicated by the inclusion of the PFIPC in the 2026 Appropriation Act, which lists an allocation of over N1.3 billion for the “Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council”. This budgetary capture—despite the Presidency’s public disavowal—has fueled public skepticism and calls for a thorough audit of government administrative processes.
