CAPE COAST — A cloud of grief, shock, and palpable fear has settled over the University of Cape Coast (UCC) community following the gruesome discovery of the body of a prominent student along the Cape Coast shoreline on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Vicencia Avinu, a Year II student, was widely known across campus for her vibrant personality, striking beauty, and distinct sense of fashion. Her sudden and violent demise has sent shockwaves through the institution and sparked national outrage as details of her final days begin to emerge.
According to campus and police sources, Avinu was last seen alive on Wednesday, June 10. She reportedly left her hostel after informing close friends that she had an upcoming appointment with a wealthy male acquaintance.
Anxiety mounted when she failed to return to her quarters by Thursday morning. Recognizing how uncharacteristic the prolonged absence was for her, worried roommates raised an alarm and formally initiated a missing person report with the local police.
The frantic search ended in horror over the weekend. Passersby discovered Avinu’s body washed up on the beach, bearing severe mutilations. Investigative authorities confirmed that several vital organs and sensitive body parts had been systematically removed, a signature hallmark of a premeditated ritual murder.
The gruesome nature of the crime has turned a campus tragedy into a pressing national conversation regarding student safety and the resurgence of money rituals targeting young women.
As the UCC community struggles to process the loss of one of its most charismatic peers, police have cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive homicide investigation. Campus security has urged students, particularly young women, to exercise heightened vigilance, avoid meeting unverified acquaintances in secluded locations, and strictly utilize the university’s buddy system when leaving campus transit lines.
No arrests have been made at the time of this publication, but investigators are actively tracking the communication logs of the deceased to identify and locate the unidentified “rich friend” last linked to her whereabouts.
