Ogun 2027: Tunji Isola Breaks Silence on Adeola’s Consensus Candidacy, Sues for Calm

ABEOKUTA – Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, a prominent governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, has officially reacted to the recent political developments within the party, following the emergence of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) as the consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial race.

​The decision, which was reached during an APC State Caucus meeting held in Abeokuta on Monday, has sent ripples through the state’s political landscape. In a swift response issued on Tuesday, Ambassador Isola addressed his teeming supporters across the state, calling for “patience and clarity” as the internal party process evolves.

​In a statement personally signed by the former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Isola emphasized his commitment to democratic ideals, noting that the voices of all stakeholders must be considered to ensure a stable political future for the state.

​”As a democrat deeply committed to the values of inclusiveness, consultation, and responsible leadership, I wish to assure you that I am actively engaging in broad and meaningful consultations with critical stakeholders and respected voices across our political and social landscape,” Isola stated.

​He further explained that these high-level discussions are vital to ensuring that any final position taken is “not only strategic but also reflective of the collective interest, aspirations, and stability of our people.”

​Despite the momentum surrounding Senator Adeola’s announcement, Isola urged members of the Sarafa Support Groups (SSG) to maintain decorum and refrain from reactionary moves.

​”I urge all members of the Sarafa Support Groups to remain calm, steadfast, and confident in the process. Leadership, at defining moments such as this, demands patience, clarity, and a firm commitment to the greater good.”

​The race for the Oke-Mosan Government House has intensified recently, with several heavyweights within the APC jostling to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun. While the State Caucus has signaled its preference for Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West at the National Assembly, Isola’s statement suggests that the final chapter of the primary process is yet to be written.
