Shettima: Tinubu Forgave Northern Governors Who Opposed Him in 2023

Vice President Kashim Shettima has revisited the political divisions surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign, saying the President chose forgiveness after the election.

ValidViewNetwork reports that Shettima said only six of the 19 northern governors supported Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

According to the Vice President, Tinubu did not allow the disagreement to permanently define his relationship with those who backed other candidates.

Shettima said, “After the 2023 election, President Tinubu hugged and forgave all other northern governors that did not support him.”

He presented the gesture as an example of political reconciliation after a competitive election.

The comments come as political actors across Nigeria increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election, with questions about alliances, regional support and party structures becoming more prominent.
