Hombir, a 27-year-old clinical audiologist and founder of the Caring Purpose Foundation, was crowned on Mandela Day at a ceremony in Pretoria. Following her triumph, online debates erupted regarding her surname and cultural origins, with some social media users drawing comparisons to previous high-profile national pageant controversies. ”I am proudly South African, born and bred in South Africa, from Nelspruit (Mpumalanga),” Hombir stated in a recent interview.
