​The political rivalry surrounding the upcoming Osun State governorship election has intensified dramatically, drawing a sharp response from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

​The exchange was triggered after the Grammy-nominated artist—who is spearheading the youth campaign mobilization for his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke—publicly called out an unnamed Imo politician. Davido had alleged a calculated plot to meddle in the democratic process and urged the individual to step back and let the electorate decide their future peacefully.

​Reacting to the remarks through his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Governor Uzodimma dismissed the singer’s public appeal as petty and misplaced.

​”It is rather pedestrian for Davido to direct such an appeal to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum simply because his wife is from Imo State. Instead, his appeal should be directed to the people of Osun State, who will ultimately decide the election’s outcome through their votes,” the statement read.

​Reiterating his dedication to democratic integrity, the Imo governor maintained that he remains fully committed to ensuring a peaceful, free, and credible electoral process. He added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will aggressively continue to rally grassroots support for its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the impending ballot.

​A Scathing Assessment of Adeleke’s Administration

​Shifting focus to the performance of the incumbent administration, Uzodimma launched a scathing critique of Governor Ademola Adeleke, claiming he has “failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities.” According to the Imo governor, deep-seated dissatisfaction across the state has created a strong momentum for political change.

​”The signals emerging from across Osun State are clear. There is a growing indication that a significant number of voters have rejected the current administration and are prepared to embrace a new direction,” Uzodimma asserted.

​In a final, biting remark, Uzodimma advised the music icon to redirect his energy toward planning for his uncle’s post-political life rather than issuing emotional warnings.

​”Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office,” the statement continued. “Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band because, judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election.”
