Police Smash Akure Armed Robbery Syndicate, Recover Lexus SUV and Stun Gun

​AKURE — Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate terrorizing the state capital, arresting two principal suspects and recovering a stolen Lexus RX350 SUV along with other valuable items.

​The breakthrough comes on the heels of a swift, intelligence-driven operation launched by detectives attached to the Akure Area Command following a violent attack at an upscale hospitality spot in the city.

​According to police reports, the incident unfolded on July 23, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m. Armed hoodlums pounced on a resident, Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, at the Advic Resort located in the Alagbaka area of Akure, forcefully dispossessing him of his luxury vehicle at gunpoint.

​Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim on July 24, tactical detectives mobilized immediately. Combining advanced technical intelligence with strategic field operations, the operatives tracked the stolen SUV to an isolated spot on the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) campus, where the panicking suspects had abandoned it intact.

​Intensifying their manhunt, police operatives closed in on the syndicate’s hideouts on July 25, leading to the apprehension of two key suspects: 31-year-old Adeoba Precious and 30-year-old Oluwapelumi Babayemi.

​During preliminary interrogations, the suspects reportedly confessed to active membership in an interstate armed robbery network specializing in violent vehicle hijackings. Subsequent searches executed at their hideouts yielded incriminating exhibits, including a stun gun loaded with a rubber bullet, a jerk knife, and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max.

​Commending the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, emphasized that the feat underscores the Command’s unwavering dedication to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.

​Reassuring residents of their safety, CP Ohagwu stated that a manhunt has already been launched to track down fleeing members of the criminal ring. He appealed to members of the public to maintain a proactive posture by supplying the Command with timely and credible information, promising strict confidentiality for whistleblowers.
