Police Seal PH Hotel, Arrest Workers, Friends Over Guest’s Mysterious Death

​PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full-scale homicide investigation and sealed off a hotel in the Eagle Island Estate area of Port Harcourt following the controversial death of a young guest, Okorite Charles.

​Charles, who was in his mid-20s, reportedly died under inexplicable circumstances after checking into the hospitality facility alongside some friends. While initial accounts from the facility claimed the victim fell from an upper-floor balcony, grieving family members have rejected the narrative, alleging brutal foul play.

​According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Karbolo, the victim was rushed to a medical facility following the incident, where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians.

​The tragedy triggered intense public tension earlier in the week when angry friends and relatives of the deceased staged a volatile protest outside the hotel premises, threatening public peace before security operatives intervened.

​“The victim’s friends came to the hotel and commenced a protest, which attracted a crowd and threatened to disrupt the peace of the area,” ASP Karbolo stated. “Upon receipt of the information, police operatives promptly mobilised to the scene and successfully brought the situation under control, preventing further breakdown of law and order.”

​As part of the preliminary clampdown, the command confirmed that all hotel staff members on duty during the incident, as well as the victim’s associates who were present at the scene, have been taken into custody for intensive interrogation. Operations at the facility have been indefinitely restricted to preserve the integrity of the crime scene and prevent the tampering of potential evidence.

​Contradicting the initial narrative of an accidental fall, the victim’s elder brother, Mr. Obomate, raised grave concerns pointing toward violent homicide. He disclosed that a physical inspection of the scene by family members revealed bloodstains and a disordered environment suggestive of a violent struggle rather than a balcony fall.

​Furthermore, Obomate alleged that medical personnel who initially examined Charles’ body observed injuries inconsistent with a simple fall. These included what appeared to be a deep stab wound to the stomach and heavy trauma to the neck area, suggesting he may have been bludgeoned and stabbed.

​The Rivers State Police Command has assured the public that a thorough, transparent probe is underway to unravel the actual sequence of events, promising that anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law. The deceased’s remains have been deposited in a morgue pending an official autopsy.
