Plateau Attacks: Mutfwang Vows Uncompromising Security Action

​JOS — Amid a renewed wave of security breaches and violent attacks trailing parts of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has struck a defiant chord, vowing to deploy every lawful means necessary to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

​Insisting that the state will never surrender to the forces of criminality and terror, the Governor maintained that his administration remains unshakeable in its primary duty to protect the populace.

​Governor Mutfwang made these declarations while addressing the 2026 Plateau Annual Convention of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, North East Zone. The gathering, which brought together church leaders and faithful, was held at the Jos District Headquarters in Gyel, along the Bukuru Expressway, Jos South Local Government Area, under the theme “Breaking Barriers into Your Next Level.”

​Refusing to Yield to Violence

​The Governor’s resolute remarks come in the wake of recent tragic incidents in areas such as Mangu and Jos South local government areas, which have drawn intense public grief and anxiety. Addressing the congregation, Mutfwang acknowledged the profound difficulties confronting the state but expressed absolute faith in the collective resilience of the people.

​“I cannot abandon my responsibility of securing the people of Plateau State. We will protect our people with all that we have, within the ambit of the law,” Mutfwang declared. “Plateau State will not be defeated by violence or the gun. We must remain united because our collective strength is critical to overcoming the challenges confronting us.”

​The Governor emphasized that synergy among citizens and security architecture remains non-negotiable. He urged residents to reject divisions, bitterness, and destructive tendencies of pulling one another down, pointing out that unity is the ultimate bedrock for survival and sustainable development.

​A Call to Spiritual Leadership

​Directing a specific message to the religious community, Mutfwang appealed to Christian leaders to rise above petty differences and position themselves as beacons of reconciliation, peace, and moral clarity.

​“As Christian leaders, we must rise above our differences. We must put aside bitterness, unforgiveness, and arrogance,” he admonished. “We must embrace humility, love, and reconciliation because these are the values that Christ taught us.”

​Reflecting on his journey into public service, the Governor noted that his participation in politics is fundamentally rooted in a desire to serve God and humanity, reiterating his unwavering commitment to altering the negative security narratives historically associated with the state.

​Earlier in the proceedings, the Executive Council member representing the North East Zone, Rev. Jacob Langs, expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for honoring the convention. Langs lauded the Governor’s continuous collaboration with religious institutions and noted the deliberate strides made by the administration in opening up governance opportunities for church members and local communities.

​As the state government continues to coordinate with security agencies to track down perpetrators of the recent violence, the administration maintains that proactive intelligence gathering and communal harmony remain pivotal to restoring permanent peace across the Middle Belt state.
