AYINGBA, KOGI STATE — Two students of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Ayingba, have been taken into police custody following the tragic killing of David Ocholi Solomon, a 300-level Biochemistry undergraduate, on the university campus.
The suspects were apprehended by the institution’s internal security network within two hours of the violent incident, preventing any immediate escalation or escape. They have since been transferred to state law enforcement agencies for rigorous interrogation and subsequent prosecution.
Prompt Security Action and Vice-Chancellor’s Reaction
The swift arrest was confirmed in an official statement released by the university’s spokesperson, Uredo Omale. According to the dispatch, the Vice-Chancellor of PAAU, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, personally delivered the news to the deceased student’s family during a solemn condolence visit to their residence in Lokoja on Saturday.
Professor Ogbo, who was attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan when the incident occurred, described the event as devastating.
”This is deeply painful and distressing, as the news plunged the entire university community into mourning,” Prof. Ogbo lamented.
He reiterated that the university administration is actively cooperating with state security agencies to ensure a meticulous investigation. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that PAAU maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward cultism, campus violence, and any form of criminality. In the wake of the tragedy, campus security protocols have been drastically tightened, with further administrative reforms underway to safeguard the student body and prevent a recurrence.
Prof. Ogbo also extended his gratitude to the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside local traditional rulers and security apparatuses, for their ongoing partnership in maintaining peace and stability within the university town.
Bereaved Family Demands Justice
Receiving the university delegation, the father of the deceased, Mr. Solomon Idachaba, expressed profound grief but thanked the university management for their empathy and swift action. While commending the internal security team for tracking down the suspects in record time, Mr. Idachaba made a passionate appeal to the police and the judiciary to ensure that no stone is left unturned in delivering absolute justice for his late son.
Investigations remain active as security forces work to uncover the motive behind the killing and determine if other accomplices were involved.
