ABEOKUTA — The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has secured a crucial step toward returning to the hallowed chambers following his emergence as the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Odeda State Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primary election, conducted on Wednesday across the ten political wards of the Odeda Local Government Area, saw party faithful turn out in large numbers to affirm the third-term lawmaker. The exercise took place simultaneously in Odeda, Olodo, Alabata, Opeji, Obete, Osiele, Obantoko, Alagbagba, Itesi, and Ilugun.
According to party officials and observers, the exercise was peaceful, transparent, and orderly. Representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and designated APC monitoring teams supervised the process across the wards.
A statement issued by the Speaker’s Media Aide, Kunle Idowu, noted that Elemide’s selection as a consensus candidate highlights his wide acceptance within the local party structure. Party leaders and constituents cited his performance at the helm of the 10th Assembly—where he took office in January 2024 following the impeachment of Olakunle Oluomo—alongside his accessibility and contributions to grassroots development as pivotal factors for his endorsement. Under his leadership, the Assembly notably facilitated the rollout of constituency project funds to boost grassroots infrastructure across the state.
Reacting to the outcome, Speaker Elemide described his victory as a triumph for unity, continuity, and progress within the Odeda constituency. He expressed gratitude to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for providing exemplary leadership and fostering unity within the ruling party.
Elemide also paid tribute to former Governor and veteran national leader, Chief Olusegun Osoba, as well as Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), for their continued guidance and encouragement.
While pledging to approach his renewed mandate with humility, dedication, and a commitment to robust representation, the Speaker urged party members to maintain a unified front as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections.
