Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has announced that bus shuttles and car hire services will soon be operational at Gateway International Airport to facilitate passenger movement and ease accessibility to the airport. The plan includes scheduled bus services from key towns such as Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Ilaro, aimed at ensuring timely transportation for travelers and their luggage.
Governor Abiodun made this disclosure on Thursday after boarding a ValueJet commercial flight to Abuja, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to continuous development of the airport since its inauguration. He highlighted the airport’s transformation from what was once a forested area to a major multi-modal transport hub seamlessly connected by road, rail, and air. This integration marks a critical phase in the state’s transport master plan, enhancing economic and logistical linkages.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the airport’s global recognition following its maiden commercial flight, which was sold out, affirming the airport as a visionary project now realized. The shuttle and car hire services are part of efforts to improve passenger experience and regional connectivity.
Also speaking, Oba Olufolarin Ogunbanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom in Lagos State and a passenger on the inaugural flight, praised the airport as a lasting legacy project that will boost investment, tourism, and employment opportunities. He noted the convenience the airport provides, reducing the need to travel to Lagos for flights and commended the airport’s international-standard services.
This initiative is set to further stimulate economic growth and development in Ogun State, strengthening its position within Nigeria’s transport and industrial landscape.
