Fusengbuwa House Rejects Kwam 1’s Awujale Claim

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, tasked with selecting the next Awujale of Ijebuland, has firmly rejected Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, known as Kwam 1, declaring him unrelated to their lineage. In a letter dated December 11, 2025, signed by Chairman Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, the house invalidated Kwam 1’s submitted lineage form, citing lack of proof tying him to the Jadiara Royal House unit and irregularities like pre-signing by an unauthorized endorser, Adetayo Abayomi Oduneye. ​ Family investigations and consultations across units confirmed no membership, emphasizing that nomination forms had closed before his late claim. 

Succession Context

The Awujale throne became vacant after Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona’s death on July 13, 2025, at age 90, following a 65-year reign. Tradition rotates the stool among four houses—Anikinaiya, Fusengbuwa, Fidipote, and Gbelegbuwa—with Fusengbuwa next in line for a mid-November 2025 emergence after a three-month mourning period. ​ Kwam 1, holding the Fidipote-linked title Olori Omooba of Ijebuland conferred by the late Oba, surprised many by claiming Jadiara descent via his father Adisa Adesanya Anifowoshe, despite no prior family involvement. ​

Family’s Firm Stance

At a December 11 meeting at Agunsenbi Ule Nla, Olori Ebi heads from Jadiara and Fusengbuwa units publicly disowned Kwam 1, with spokesperson Omoba Abiodun Adesanya Ogidan stating he is “not our family member” and accusing him of rewriting history. The house warned against admitting “fake people,” noting Kwam 1 received only a lineage verification form after missing the December 5 nomination deadline, extended briefly for him. ​ Jadiara had petitioned the chairman and Ogun State Government denying ties.

Kwam 1’s bid drew mixed responses from Ijebuland royals, questioning Fidipote origins in a Fusengbuwa turn, while he previously asserted his royal right. ​ Nominated candidates’ names emerge December 15 at Bisrod Hall, GRA Ijebu-Ode, per guidelines. ​ This rejection ends his ambition amid strict verification to uphold 600-year traditions. ​
