As the political atmosphere heats up for the upcoming August governorship election in Osun State, the Osun Development Association (ODA) has issued a stern and timely appeal to political actors, candidates, and their supporters to prioritize peace, dignity, and restraint.
Speaking through its Publicity Secretary, Chris Adetayo, the association cautioned against the use of inflammatory rhetoric, intimidation, and any actions likely to escalate tensions across the state. The call echoes the core resolutions from the recently concluded Osun Democratic Governance, Peace and Electoral Integrity Summit.
Commending Political Maturity
Highlighting recent displays of cross-party civility, ODA Chairman Dr. Segun Aina lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, for demonstrating remarkable statesmanship during the funeral rites of the late mother of APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
According to Dr. Aina, the cordial interaction between key figures from opposing camps sets a healthy precedent, proving that vigorous political competition does not need to compromise mutual respect or public safety.
”Political parties may differ in ideology and contest vigorously for votes, but they must never lose sight of our common humanity or the collective interest of Osun State,” Aina remarked.

With the election drawing closer, the ODA has reiterated that safeguarding the peace and stability of the state remains a collective duty for all residents and stakeholders. The association intends to sustain robust dialogues with political actors to ensure that the campaign season remains strictly issue-based, focusing on competence, ideas, and vision rather than hostility.
