SOKOTO – The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Sokoto State, CP Hayyatu Shafa, officially assumed duty on Monday, June 1, 2026, with a stern warning to criminal elements operating within the Caliphate.
Speaking at the State Command Headquarters, CP Shafa outlined a comprehensive “three-pronged strategy” designed to dismantle the networks of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping that have plagued the North-West region.
”The first duty of government is to maintain law and order so that the life, property, and religious beliefs of citizens are fully protected,” Shafa declared. He acknowledged the grim reality facing the state, noting that insecurity has not only led to loss of life but has crippled farming and local economic activities, disproportionately affecting women and children.
A Modern Approach to Combat
The new police chief emphasized that his administration would move away from reactive policing toward a more proactive, technology-driven model. His three-pronged blueprint includes:
- Intelligence-Led Operations: Leveraging modern surveillance and data tools to disrupt criminal plots before they are executed.
- Community Policing: Strengthening the bond between the police and residents through the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to improve real-time information sharing.
- Inter-Agency Synergy: Deepening collaboration with the Nigerian Army, DSS, and NSCDC to ensure a unified front against armed groups.
Restoration of Confidence
CP Shafa paid tribute to fallen heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty and urged his officers to maintain the highest levels of discipline. Beyond tactical operations, the Commissioner announced plans for youth-focused initiatives and sports activities to foster trust between the police and the younger generation.
He also called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to serve as anchors in the quest for peace. “Together, we will preserve life and property, restore confidence, and ensure that Sokoto remains safe and secure,” he concluded.
