NAF Airstrike Kills Nine ISWAP Fighters, Key Commander In Borno

The Nigerian Air Force has struck a major blow against ISWAP deep inside Sambisa Forest.

The NAF said the precision strike killed nine fighters, including a key commander, ValidViewNetwork reports.

The Director of Public Relations of the NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame disclosed the operation in a statement on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Findings show the NAF Headquarters issued the statement from Abuja the same day. A Remotely Piloted Aircraft tracked the terrorists as they moved toward a suspected hideout. “The NAF aircraft conducted a precision engagement on the location,” Ejodame said.

Battle damage assessment showed significant effects on the targeted compound, ValidViewNetwork gathered.

Nine ISWAP fighters died in the strike, while several others sustained injuries.

Who Was Abu Khalid Al Muhajir

Among those killed was Abu Khalid Al Muhajir, a prominent ISWAP commander, Ejodame disclosed. He specialised in providing security escorts for senior ISWAP members’ movements, ValidViewNetwork reports.

His detailed knowledge of routes and terrain linked multiple terrorist enclaves within Sambisa Forest. NAF described his elimination as a significant operational setback for the group’s logistics.

Linked To A Recent Troop Ambush

Intelligence gathered after the strike tied some casualties to a separate recent attack. ValidViewNetwork gathered that Nigerian troops were ambushed along the Bita-Yamtage axis recently.

That earlier ambush occurred in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The NAF said some terrorists affected in Saturday’s strike were linked to that ambush.
