IBADAN – Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced a strategic restructuring of his administration’s security and economic sectors with the appointment of two key officials. The Governor approved the appointment of Abayomi Fagbenro as the new Special Adviser on Security and Arowosaye Adeyemi as the Board Chairman of the Pacesetter Mineral Development Company (PMDC).
The announcement was made public on Monday through official correspondence signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Segun Ogunwuyi. According to the statement, both appointments are effective immediately and are part of the Governor’s “Omituntun 2.0” agenda to enhance governance and service delivery in the state.
A Tech-Driven Security Strategy
The choice of Abayomi Fagbenro signals a shift toward integrating technology with traditional security intelligence. Fagbenro brings extensive international experience to the role, having served with the United States Department of Defence at the Army Network Enterprise Centre in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, between 2007 and 2012.
Fagbenro’s pedigree includes:
- Military Training: Conducted at Great Lakes, Illinois, Chicago.
- Academic Background: Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Strayer University, with further studies at East Coast Polytechnic Institute.
Validviewnetwork reports suggest that Fagbenro’s background in network enterprise and information systems is expected to bolster Oyo State’s digital surveillance and data-driven policing initiatives. His appointment comes at a time when the state is looking to modernize its security architecture to tackle emerging regional challenges.
Strengthening the Mineral Sector
To lead the Pacesetter Mineral Development Company, Governor Makinde selected Arowosaye Adeyemi, a seasoned administrator and former local government boss. Adeyemi previously served as both the Caretaker Committee Chairman and the Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government Area.
A graduate of Political Science from the University of Abuja, Adeyemi is tasked with revitalizing the state’s mineral resource acquisition and management. Validviewnetwork reports indicate that this move is intended to aggressively drive the state’s internally generated revenue through the sustainable exploitation of solid minerals.
