AKURE – In a decisive move to solidify party structures ahead of the next general elections, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde has emerged as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State. The former federal lawmaker, who represented the Akoko South East/Akoko South West constituency, was elected alongside 35 other members of the State Working Committee through a consensus and affirmation process on Tuesday.
The state congress, held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome) in Akure, was characterized by a peaceful atmosphere that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa described as a “reaffirmation of shared commitment.”

A Call for Discipline and Unity
Addressing the delegates, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the exercise was more than a political formality. He framed the congress as a vital step in his administration’s “seven-point agenda,” specifically focusing on order, security, and the rule of law.
”The APC remains a party built on structure, order, and collective responsibility,” the Governor stated. He praised the aspirants who stepped down their personal ambitions for the sake of party harmony, describing the collaborative spirit as the “Ondo APC spirit.”

Aiyedatiwa also used the platform to look toward the national stage, urging members to maintain their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and his eventual re-election bid.
”No Winner, No Loser”
In his acceptance speech, titled A New Dawn of Unity and Progress, Hon. Babatunde pledged to lead an inclusive and transparent administration. He signaled an end to internal divisions, promising to energize the party’s grassroots and elevate the roles of women and youth within the leadership hierarchy.

”There is no winner or loser in this exercise. I am for all, and against none,” Babatunde declared, quoting philosopher John Locke to underscore his commitment to preserving political freedoms within the party.
Ensuring a Fair Process
The Chairman of the Ondo APC State Congress Committee, Comrade Ogonna Obiekwe, lauded the conduct of the participants. He noted that the smooth transition serves as a testament to the party’s maturity and its readiness for future electoral victories.
