ABEOKUTA – In a swift reaction to burgeoning political rumors ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial race in Ogun State, the media team of Senator Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo has officially debunked a viral statement falsely claiming she has endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

The clarification comes on the heels of a widely circulated text titled “Iyabo Obasanjo on Consensus Arrangement,” which sought to create the impression that the former Senator had conceded her own ambitions in favor of the Senate Appropriations Chairman. This development follows a recent high-profile Arise News interview where Senator Obasanjo articulated her vision for the state, emphasizing that her entry into the race was a response to the yearnings of the Ogun people for principled leadership.

The media team, in a statement released today, clarified that while Senator Obasanjo remains an advocate for internal party democracy and collective progress, at no point did she authorize or make any statement backing another candidate.

”The attention of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Media Team has been drawn to a circulating statement falsely attributing comments to her regarding any endorsement of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.

Let this be stated clearly and unequivocally: Senator Iyabo Obasanjo did not make any such comment. Any claim suggesting otherwise is inaccurate, misleading, mischievous and should be disregarded in its entirety.

Senator Obasanjo is a firm believer in the principle of consensus where it genuinely reflects collective interest and strengthens democratic outcomes. Based on her pedigree, experience, and deep understanding of the political landscape, she is confident that a properly guided consensus process will ultimately deliver the best result for her aspirations and for the good people of Ogun State.

While she holds all aspirants in high regard and respects their right to pursue their ambitions, it is both improper and unacceptable to attribute to her statements she never made. Integrity in public discourse must not be sacrificed on the altar of political convenience.

Senator Obasanjo therefore calls on all political actors and their supporters to conduct themselves with decorum, maturity, and responsibility as the 2027 election approaches. Ogun State deserves a process anchored in truth, respect, and dignity.

It is evident that her growing political network, credibility, and influence are causing unease in certain quarters. However, it must be clearly understood that the success of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo is the success of Ogun State and its people.

As a distinguished leader, a principled voice and a woman of substance, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo remains committed to service, integrity, and the collective progress of all.

Let truth lead. Let integrity prevail.”

The Misleading Statement Refuted:

For the purpose of clarity and to warn the general public against further misinformation, the media team highlighted the specific fabricated text being circulated:

“Dr. Iyabo Obasanjo also agrees with the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on consensus arrangement and attest to the fact that Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, FCA, FCTI, FFPI, CON, YAYI with his political experience, grassroots connection, political strength, personality and acceptability should be supported as the consensus candidate of APC for Ogun State in 2027.”

As the political temperature in the Gateway State begins to rise, this rebuttal serves as a firm reminder that Senator Iyabo Obasanjo is actively pursuing her mandate within the All Progressives Congress (APC). By calling for “decorum and maturity,” she signals that while the race for the 2027 governorship is open, it must be won on the grounds of authentic engagement and verifiable facts, rather than through the manufacture of consent. For the Obasanjo camp, the focus remains steadfast: a commitment to an Ogun State where the will of the people is not bypassed by political subterfuge.
