The Imo State Police Command has arrested and initiated disciplinary proceedings against six of its officers captured in a viral video assaulting a citizen in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which reportedly took place on June 22, 2026, at Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms, prompting swift intervention from the command’s leadership.
In an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, the command identified the embattled operatives as Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu, and Corporal Amos Sunny.
According to DSP Okoye, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the confrontation to determine the immediate and remote causes of the misconduct.
”The officers have been taken into custody, and disciplinary procedures have been initiated in line with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” Okoye stated.

The command strongly condemned the actions of the officers, describing their behavior as a direct contradiction of the values, ethics, and professional codes binding the Nigeria Police Force. CP Bosso reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy regarding human rights violations and unprofessional conduct, assuring the public that the investigation would be handled with strict transparency.
The police high command added that the final outcome of the disciplinary tribunal will be made public as soon as proceedings are concluded.
