Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, announced on Saturday the successful rescue of a woman and her son who were abducted in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State. The victims, identified as Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son, Abdulmalik, were liberated from a forest in Kwara State after a multi-day operation.
The rescue mission, carried out by Igboho’s “Iru Ekun” security network in coordination with the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), culminated in a fierce firefight in the early hours of Saturday near the Bode Sadu area. According to a statement from Igboho’s media office, the operation relied on extensive intelligence gathering and tracking, which eventually led to the location of the kidnappers’ hideout.
Upon launching the assault, the joint task force engaged the abductors, forcing them to flee the forest after suffering bullet wounds. The victims were subsequently located after rescuers heard their calls for help. They have since been transported to the Igboho General Hospital for medical evaluation and care.
Igboho credited the success of the mission to the cooperation of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, and local security commissioners in Kwara and Niger states. This rescue follows a period of heightened regional tension and comes shortly after traditional rulers in Kwara South formally enlisted the Iru Ekun security outfit to help combat rising incidents of banditry and terrorism that have displaced residents in the area.
In his statement, Igboho reaffirmed his commitment to the safety of the people of Oke-Ogun and Oyo State. He urged the public to continue supporting legitimate security efforts while discouraging the spread of unverified information that could compromise ongoing investigations or incite unnecessary public fear.
