IBADAN – A coalition of youths across the Ibadan Northwest and Ibadan Southwest Federal Constituency has sent a stern warning to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vowing to resist any attempt to field candidates associated with “propaganda and misinformation” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The agitated youths, representing various wards across the two local governments, expressed deep-seated frustration over what they described as a coordinated media campaign to dress up Dr. Akin Fagbemi as a “consensus candidate” for the constituency’s House of Representatives seat.
In a joint statement released on Thursday, the group condemned recent media reports—specifically citing a publication by Goalpoachernews—which they claimed falsely presented Dr. Fagbemi as the party’s unified choice. The youths maintained that no such agreement had been reached by the party’s stakeholders, labeling the narrative as a “deliberate attempt to mislead” the electorate.
Integrity Under Scrutiny
”Leadership demands integrity and accountability,” the statement read. “Anyone who allows falsehood to fly around their ambition has already failed the basic test of public trust. We cannot fold our arms and allow a sophisticated constituency like ours to be represented by those who either encourage or benefit from fake narratives.”
The youths warned that if the PDP fails to distance itself from such “deceptive tactics,” the party risks a total collapse at the polls in 2027. They emphasized that the modern voter is politically conscious and will not be swayed by “distortions of facts.”
Call for Credibility
The group insisted that silence from the aspirant regarding these “consensus” claims amounts to complicity. They urged the PDP hierarchy to act swiftly to correct the narrative and warn those responsible for spreading misinformation, noting that such internal friction only serves to hand an advantage to the opposition.
”What Ibadan Northwest and Southwest need is a candidate with proven grassroots acceptance and the capacity to win across both local governments based on merit, not propaganda,” the youths added.

As the race for 2027 intensifies, the coalition’s stand signals a growing demand for transparency within the PDP’s internal selection process, with a clear message: credibility is the only currency that will buy victory in the next election cycle.
