“I Woke Up and Saw My Name”: Toyin Abraham Explains Why She Rejected APC Campaign Role

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has explained why she rejected her reported inclusion in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress Campaign Council, saying she woke up to find her name on the list without knowing anything about it.

Abraham made the clarification on Friday while responding to a social media user who suggested that her decision could protect her from further online attacks.

She rejected that interpretation, saying her decision was not driven by online criticism.

“Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do,” Abraham said, explaining that she discovered her name on a list she knew nothing about.

The actress had already publicly stated that she was staying away from politics. Her name appeared among entertainers listed under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate of the Lagos APC campaign structure unveiled ahead of the 2027 elections.

The directorate also includes prominent entertainers such as Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun and Bukky Wright.

Toke Benson-Awoyinka was listed as Director, with Kosoko as Co-Director and Badmus as Deputy Director.

But Abraham has now asked the public to disregard her reported inclusion.

In an earlier statement, she said, “I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee.”

The development is notable because Abraham has previously been publicly associated with political support, particularly during the 2023 presidential election, when she faced intense online criticism over her support for Bola Tinubu.

Her latest statement, however, draws a clear line between her previous political expression and participation in a formal campaign structure.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the controversy also raises a straightforward question about political campaign lists: whether public figures listed in such structures have been consulted and agreed to serve before their names are publicly announced.

For Abraham, her position is now explicit. She says she is not a member of the campaign council and intends to remain outside active politics, ValidViewNetwork reports.
