As security operatives intensify efforts to rescue pupils, teachers and administrators abducted in Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area, the husband of one of the victims has appealed to Nigerians to avoid comments that could compromise ongoing operations.
The husband of the kidnapped principal of Community Grammar School, Esiele, Professor Wole Alamu, made the appeal during a telephone interview on Wednesday, stressing that sensitive disclosures at this stage could jeopardise attempts to secure the safe release of those in captivity.
“We will grant interviews, but not now. Serious work is going on behind the scenes. Anything said carelessly now may jeopardise the rescue operations,” he said.
Alamu commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies for what he described as coordinated and sustained efforts toward freeing the victims.
The abduction followed a deadly attack on schools in Esiele community, where gunmen reportedly killed a teacher, Michael Oyedokun, and abducted dozens of pupils and staff.
Affected schools include Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and L.A. Primary School.
A viral video released last Friday showed the abducted principal, Mrs Folawe Alamu, pleading with the Federal Government, Oyo State Government and security agencies to intervene and ensure their release.
Meanwhile, security operations have been stepped up across affected communities and adjoining forest areas, particularly around the Old Oyo National Park, where the abductors are suspected to be hiding.
