The Lagos State Government has escalated its offensive against unregistered healthcare providers, warning that the era of “backdoor” medical practices is over. Through the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), the state has intensified its grassroots advocacy, recently storming Ojo Local Government Area to sensitize residents on the life-threatening risks of patronizing unlicensed clinics.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Ojo, the Permanent Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Abiola Idowu, represented by Mrs. Oladunni Omonike, revealed that the agency’s “zero-tolerance” stance has already led to the closure of multiple facilities in recent weeks. The crackdown follows a surge in public whistleblowing, which has empowered the agency to move more decisively against “medical centers” operating without qualified personnel or proper equipment.

Digital Defense Against Quacks
To provide a foolproof shield for residents, HEFAMAA is pushing the adoption of digital verification. Every legitimate health facility in Lagos is now required to display:
1.The Official HEFAMAA Logo: A physical mark of state approval.
2.QR Codes: Encrypted codes that patients can scan with a smartphone to instantly verify a facility’s registration status, owner details, and accredited services.
3.Registration Insignia: Updated certificates that must be placed in prominent view.
