In a bold move to reinforce democratic governance and deepen civic participation across Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun has officially appointed 1,200 political assistants. This initiative is designed to serve as a vital bridge linking grassroots communities with the state government, ensuring that democratic dividends reach every ward in the state.
Announced by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Governor, the appointments reflect Ogun State Government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance. The political assistants—comprising five from each of the 236 wards—are tasked with amplifying local voices, identifying community needs, and facilitating effective communication between citizens and policymakers.
Hon. Akinmade emphasized that the political assistants are not merely aides but change agents entrusted with the responsibility of promoting civic engagement and fostering government accountability. They will gather and articulate the concerns of their respective wards to the government, while also relaying government initiatives back to their communities, thus fostering a two-way communication channel.
This strategic initiative fulfills a key campaign promise made by Governor Abiodun to carry every ward along in the state’s development agenda. It underscores the administration’s vision of an all-inclusive government where the input of grassroots populations significantly influences policy formulation and implementation.
