The Nigeria U-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets will begin the hunt for a record third Africa Cup of Nation title in Algeria on Sunday.
Nigeria will face Zambia in their group opener at the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui, Constantine.
Speaking ahead of the game, the Golden Eaglets head coach, Nduka Ugbade called for caution from his players.
The former Nigerian international admonished his players to keep their feet on the ground.
“It is going to be very difficult, with all due respect to all the teams which have qualified. But, we are not coming here to participate. Everyone knows Nigeria is a footballing nation and we are coming here to compete,” the tactician told a press conference on Saturday.
“We are confident in our preparation and what we have done before the tournament, but we have to do everything humanly possible to win it because every team is tough and if you are not careful, you will find yourself out of the competition.”
The Golden Eaglets are among the five countries to have won the title two times.
Victory in Algeria will see the West Africans become the most successful country in the competition.
Morocco and South Africa are the other teams in the group.
