ABUJA — The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended four individuals for allegedly impersonating the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to orchestrate a ₦150 million land fraud targeting a retired high-ranking military officer.
The primary suspect, identified as Yashim Kajang of Kurudu, Abuja, was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. According to police reports, Kajang allegedly led a sophisticated syndicate that defrauded Major General A.K. Ibrahim (rtd) and several other victims. The group specialized in promising unsuspecting investors prime real estate within the Guzape II Cadastral Zone.
Investigations revealed that Kajang successfully convinced his victims of his “high-level” connections with the FCT Minister and the Director of Lands. Under this guise, he reportedly collected over ₦150 million in exchange for non-existent documents for Plot 1985 at Guzape II—a massive three-hectare property—alongside several other plots.
Insider Collaboration Exposed
The case took a sharper turn during interrogation when Kajang allegedly indicted officials within the FCT Administration (FCDA). He named Stephen Mhambe and Danladi Jatau, both staff of the Urban and Regional Planning Department, as his accomplices. A fourth suspect, Terngu Ipaven, was also linked to the syndicate.
Kajang confessed that the FCDA insiders provided the critical data and sensitive land information necessary to make the fraudulent transactions appear legitimate. This “inside track” allowed the group to bypass traditional red flags that might have alerted the retired General and other victims.
Authorities have confirmed that all four suspects remain in custody as the investigation expands to determine if more officials or victims are involved. The FCT Ministry has frequently warned the public to verify all land allocations through official channels at the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) to avoid such scams.
