Ipoti-Ekiti, Ekiti State-born Navy Captain Caleb Omoniyi Olubolade (rtd), who served as the Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, has died.
Born on November 30, 1954, the retired Navy Captain was appointed the military administrator of the newly created Bayelsa State in June 1997 by the military government of General Sani Abacha, a position he held until July 1998.
Captain Olubolade had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Navy,having been commissioned in 1974. He attended Britannia Royal Naval College in the UK and the Naval College of Engineering in India.
Following his retirement from the Navy in 1999, at the start of the Fourth Republic, he ventured into politics. He later served as the Minister of Special Duties in President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet from 2010 to 2015, and also held the portfolio of Minister of Police Affairs.
In December 2024, prominent Nigerians, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and the current Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, celebrated his 70th birthday, highlighting his contributions to the development of Bayelsa State.
