ABUJA – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court 13 has ordered the remand of two children of the late multi-billionaire businessman, Adimike Godwin, alongside another suspect, following their arraignment for his gruesome murder in the Guzape district of Abuja.
The defendants—Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany, and Comfort Ajibade—were docked on Monday to face a four-count charge, including criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and the act of culpable homicide itself.
The tragic incident, which sent shockwaves through the upscale Guzape neighborhood, took place on May 15, 2026. Police reports indicate that officers from the Guzape Divisional Headquarters were alerted after a relative of the deceased grew concerned that repeated attempts to reach him had failed. Upon arrival, detectives discovered the businessman unresponsive in his room, bearing multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following a thorough investigation ordered by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, five individuals—including the deceased’s driver and gateman—were initially taken into custody. Prosecutors ultimately filed charges against the three defendants after the investigation concluded.
Beyond the homicide charges, the trio also faces prosecution under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. Court documents reveal that Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony was specifically charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were jointly charged for the same offense.
During the proceedings, the court ordered that the defendants be held at the Suleja Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned until September 30, 2026, for further hearings.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to securing justice for the victim while ensuring that the judicial process adheres strictly to the rule of law.
The death of the 53-year-old electronics importer and real estate mogul had been the subject of intense public interest since May, following reports that his life was cut short during what was supposed to be a visit from his children.
