EFCC,Revenue Service Forge Greater Front Against Tax Fraud in Kano

​KANO — In a concerted push to choke off economic sabotage and plug leakages in the national treasury, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) have resolved to deepen their operational alliance.

​This renewed commitment was reached on Monday, August 10, 2026, when the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Kano Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE1) Friday S. Ebelo, led a delegation on a strategic courtesy visit to the Regional Administrator of the NRS, Dr. Ismail Abdullahi, at the Service’s regional headquarters in Kano.

​The high-level engagement centered on fortifying intelligence-sharing mechanisms and executing synchronized enforcement actions designed to shield national revenue streams from unscrupulous elements.

​Conveying the message of the EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Ebelo lauded the leadership of the NRS, pointing to recent milestones in tax administration as transformative for the country’s fiscal landscape. He delivered a stern warning to economic saboteurs, reiterating that the anti-graft agency maintains zero tolerance for tax evasion, financial malfeasance, and acts that deliberately undermine the Nigerian economy.

​”As you are aware, our agency holds a strategic position in coordinating economic and financial crimes-related activities in the country. We will not stay back and watch individuals cheat the nation of its legitimate revenue,” Ebelo stated, emphasizing that stepping up synergy with revenue-generating bodies remains critical to national development.

​Responding, the NRS Regional Administrator, Dr. Ismail Abdullahi, expressed profound enthusiasm over the visit, underscoring that inter-agency cooperation is indispensable for curbing tax fraud and fostering a culture of voluntary compliance among taxpayers.

​”We are happy to collaborate with you. This relationship has existed for some time, and it is a good thing that we collaborate to make it work even better,” Abdullahi remarked. “Our core mandate is to assess and collect revenue, and we believe that we are here to serve. We will be very much glad to collaborate with you in terms of intelligence sharing and investigative activities.”

​During the discussions, Abdullahi also noted the institutional evolution of the agency, drawing attention to its recent transition from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), a change that encapsulates its expanded umbrella responsibilities within the nation’s contemporary tax administration framework.
