With profound sorrow but gratitude to God, the Olunloyo family announces the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo, a distinguished mathematician, engineer, and former governor of Oyo State.Dr. Olunloyo departed this life just days before his 90th birthday.
A trailblazer in education and public service, Dr. Olunloyo was the first Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic. He also served as Commissioner for Education and Economic Development in the Western Region and briefly governed Oyo State in 1983. Known for his intellect and versatility, he earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of St Andrews and made significant contributions to number theory and applied mathematics.
Dr. Olunloyo held traditional titles such as Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, reflecting his deep connection to Yoruba culture. His legacy of service, scholarship, and leadership remains a source of pride for his family and admirers.
The family requests privacy as they prepare to honor his memory with a befitting burial. May his soul rest in peace.
