In the vast landscape of Nigerian higher education, few figures command as much intellectual respect and systemic admiration as the current custodian of knowledge at the Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Library, Obafemi Awolowo University. ValidViewNetwork reports that Dr. Olukemi Adebimpe Fadehan stands as a towering beacon of academic excellence, institutional leadership, and historic milestones in library and information studies. Born in Ibadan in the historic month of November 1962, her formative years in that ancient city laid a robust foundation for what would become an unparalleled journey through the upper echelons of academia.

Her intellectual trajectory took root at Methodist High School Ilesa, Osun State, where she completed her West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1978, followed by advanced studies at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. ValidViewNetwork reports that Dr. Fadehan subsequently built an envious academic profile at the prestigious University of Ibadan, earning a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in 1983, a Master of Library Studies (MLS) in 1986, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in 2006. Today, she is a fully Certified Librarian of Nigeria (CLN) and holds a Proficiency Certificate in Computer Fundamentals from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile–Ife.

Dr. Fadehan’s professional career is a testament to versatility, beginning in 1984 with her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployment to the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation as an announcer, followed by a brief stint teaching at Unity High School, Abeokuta. She formally entered the university library system at Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye, before transitioning to OAU in 1992 as a Senior Librarian. Demonstrating relentless diligence, she climbed the ranks to become the Deputy University Librarian at Ile-Ife.

By March 2013, her exceptional profile opened new doors of history at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where she assumed the role of University Librarian. Her extensive expertise spans across multiple critical divisions, including serving as Gifts & Exchange Librarian, Serials Librarian, Reference Librarian, Africana Librarian, and Research Department lead.

Beyond administrative leadership, Dr. Fadehan has spent over 31 years actively teaching the Library Instruction Programme, pioneering research in User Studies with an emphasis on how information is provided and utilized. Her vast academic publications cover topics ranging from ICT, gender, and oral traditions to university archives and music librarianship. Most notably, her doctoral research introduced a vital new dynamic to local corporate literature, analyzing a business management concept through an informational lens as a maiden effort in Nigeria. Highlighting the specific academic focus of this milestone, the record notes that it was her doctoral thesis on

‘Environmental Scanning’ (within the scope of Library & Information Studies) as a maiden effort in Nigeria.

Her immense contributions have earned her active membership in prestigious global bodies, including the Nigerian Library Association, the American Library Association, and the International Federation of Library Associations. Her cabinet of accolades includes the NUC Researchers Participation Award, OAU Foundation Day commendations, and the title of Best Library Worker at UNILAG’s NIALS. Remarkably, her appointment marked a historic shift in institutional representation, as she stands proud as the first black female University Librarian at the University of Lagos.

In recognition of her transformative impact on national development, she has been honored with the Development in Nigeria Merit Award, alongside being named a Fellow of Management Consultants (FIMC) and a Fellow of the Institute of Information Management (FIIM). Off the clock of academic rigor, she enjoys a fulfilling family life, being happily married to Engr. Ayoola Fadehan, a union that remains highly fruitful, ValidViewNetwork reports.

As she continues to guide students and preserve rich institutional archives, her journey endures as a shining template of leadership for women across the global academic landscape, ValidViewNetwork reports.
