ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the appointment of Mr. Olanrewaju Iskeel Saka as the state’s new Head of Service (HoS).
The announcement was contained in a formal statement released on Friday evening by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
According to the state government, Saka’s elevation to the peak of the state’s civil service follows the statutory retirement of the immediate past Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya.
A Journey Through the Ranks
Prior to his landmark appointment, Mr. Saka served as the Permanent Secretary at the Bureau of Cabinet and Special Services, where he garnered critical acclaim for his administrative acumen.
Saka’s trajectory in the Ogun State civil service is a classic tale of dedication and career growth. He initially entered the state’s public service exactly 33 years ago on May 15, 1993, starting his career on the ground floor as a classroom teacher on Grade Level 08.
Recognizing his administrative potential, he later transferred to the mainstream civil service in 2006, assuming the role of a Senior Administrative Officer on Grade Level 09. Over the next two decades, he systematically climbed the bureaucratic ladder, establishing a reputation as a thoroughbred professional.
Commendations and Credentials
Born on February 15, 1968, the 58-year-old newly minted HoS is highly regarded across government circles as a seasoned administrator with deep expertise in policy formulation, coordination, and strategic execution.
Reacting to the development, stakeholders within the state’s workforce have described the appointment as a meritorious decision. The management of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), through its Deputy General Manager of Programme Services, Mr. Gbenga Omotunde, congratulated Saka, describing his appointment as “a classic case of a square peg in a square hole.” Omotunde further noted that Saka is a disciplined technocrat capable of advancing the state’s workforce to a higher pedestal.
”The appointment is in strict recognition of Mr. Saka’s hard work, unyielding dedication, total commitment to duty, and track record of outstanding service to the Ogun State Public Service,” the statement from the SSG’s office read.
Saka brings a rich portfolio of professional affiliations to his new role. He is a distinguished member of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos. He also holds professional memberships with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Policy Management Development (IPMD).
The transition comes at a busy time for the Abiodun administration, closely following the state House of Assembly’s recent screening and confirmation of new cabinet commissioner nominees, signaling a broader administrative refresh within the Ogun State Government.
