Lagos, Nigeria – Two brothers, John Abugu (43) and Kenneth Abugu (31), have been apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, for attempting to smuggle cocaine to India.

The arrest, which occurred on Thursday, April 3, 2025, followed intelligence gathering by the NDLEA. The brothers were caught with 5 kilograms of cocaine concealed within the walls of their suitcases as they prepared to board a flight to India.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspects claimed they were traveling to India for medical treatment. However, a thorough search of their luggage revealed a white powdery substance, which was subsequently confirmed to be cocaine, hidden within the suitcase linings.
The NDLEA continues its investigation into the matter.
