LA ALCAIDESA, Spain — Spanish authorities have launched a major investigation after a British expatriate was found stabbed to death inside his home in an exclusive coastal resort town in southern Spain.
The victim, identified as a British national aged between 60 and 70, was discovered on Saturday afternoon lying in a pool of blood at his residence in La Alcaidesa, an upmarket residential estate situated between Sotogrande and Gibraltar. Local emergency services made the grim discovery at approximately 4:30 p.m. after initially responding to reports of a man falling from a height nearby.
Detectives from the Guardia Civil are currently working on the theory that the deceased was killed during an “extremely violent” domestic dispute with his partner, an Algerian national in his 20s.
According to regional reports, investigators believe a brutal altercation broke out inside the property involving a machete and a hammer. Following the fatal confrontation, the suspect reportedly jumped from a window or wall close to the property in what authorities are treating as an apparent suicide attempt.
The couple had reportedly shared the home for approximately three years.
The Algerian national was found injured near the scene and was rushed to the La Línea University Hospital. He remains under strict police guard while receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson for the Guardia Civil confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating:
”An investigation is underway after a man was found dead at a property in La Alcaidesa. Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.”
Detectives are awaiting clearance from medical staff to formally question the suspect to piece together the exact sequence of events. No formal charges have been announced at this stage.
Shock in an Expat Haven
The brutal incident has sent shockwaves through La Alcaidesa, a quiet and affluent enclave widely known for its pristine 3.5-mile blue flag beach, luxury golf courses, and heavy concentration of British and European retirees. Located just a 20-minute drive from the Gibraltar border, the area is typically regarded as a secure and peaceful haven for holidaymakers and long-term expatriates alike.
