“Bob Marley: One Love” Actor Shot Dead in St. Catherine

​SPANISH TOWN, JAMAICA — Tributes are pouring in across the entertainment world following the fatal shooting of actor and reggae musician Brian-Todd Anthony Boucher, widely known by his stage names Ras Ajai and Ajoy.

​Boucher, 43, who gained international recognition for his portrayal of political enforcer Claudie Massop in the 2024 biographical film Bob Marley: One Love, was assassinated late Saturday evening, August 1, in Waterford, St. Catherine.

​According to reports from the St. Catherine South Police, the tragedy unfolded just hours after Boucher had arrived in Jamaica on a flight from his home in New York.

​Investigators report that Boucher was walking along a roadway in the Waterford community alongside a 37-year-old male companion when they were ambushed. A vehicle carrying armed individuals intercepted the pair, and a gunman exited the car, opening fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.

​Boucher sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His companion survived the attack and remains hospitalized receiving medical treatment.

​The actor famously rubbed shoulders with British royalty, attending the high-profile Jamaican premiere of Bob Marley: One Love where he met Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Beyond his breakout cinematic role portraying the historical peace figure Massop—who famously helped broker the truce leading to Marley’s 1978 One Love Peace Concert—Boucher was a dedicated musician. Raised in the local area by his adoptive family, he pioneered a self-described “ghetto gospel” sound, scoring underground hits with his 2012 single Pack Up Yuh Tings and his 2017 cannabis tribute track Smoking Loud.

​Law enforcement authorities have launched a full-scale homicide investigation into the shooting, though no motives or suspects have yet been publicly confirmed.
