The political battle over the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly elections has taken another turn in Agege, with two former APC aspirants moving to the Allied Peoples Movement.
Former Agege Local Government chairman Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi and Azeez Oladapo Yusuf have emerged as APM candidates for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively.
Their departure followed a dispute over the outcome of the APC primaries.Egunjobi contested the Agege Constituency I primary, while Yusuf contested Constituency II.
They have maintained that they secured the highest votes at their respective primary venues but were subsequently replaced on the party’s candidate list.
The development generated speculation about the role of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who has been politically associated with the two men.
But Egunjobi and Yusuf have rejected that interpretation. In a statement, they said their decision to leave APC and contest under APM was their own and was based on their experiences during the primary process.
They specifically denied that Obasa directed or encouraged their defection. The dispute illustrates the political consequences that can follow when aspirants challenge the outcome of party primaries, particularly in closely contested constituencies.
ValidViewNetwork reports that Egunjobi and Yusuf will now take their contest to the wider electorate under a different party platform rather than continue their battle for the APC tickets.
The move also adds another layer to the political contest in Agege ahead of the 2027 elections.
Their departure, however, does not by itself determine the outcome of the wider contest, which will depend on the candidates, parties and voters in the constituencies.

For now, the immediate issue is clear: two politicians who sought APC tickets will face the election under the APM platform after disputing how those tickets were allocated, ValidViewNetwork reports.
