The Sedative Chef: Inside the N150M Abuja Mansion Heist

​A culinary dream turned into a living nightmare for an Abuja family after their newly hired chef transformed his kitchen duties into a calculated blueprint for a multimillion-naira robbery. In a shocking breach of trust, the culinary professional allegedly spiced his employers’ dinner with a potent sedative, knocking out both the occupants and their security detail to orchestrate a clean sweep of the mansion.

​ValidViewNetwork reports that the Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested the mastermind, identified as John Cosmos Govi, over his direct involvement in a terrifying case of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, malicious damage to property, theft, and administering harmful substances.

​The suspect, who reportedly received his professional training at a catering school in Cotonou, Benin Republic, allegedly used his credentials to infiltrate the household. According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, Govi secured the employment after plotting with two fleeing accomplices, Peter and Moses. ValidViewNetwork reports that the suspect spent his initial days carefully studying the daily routines, movements, and intricate security architecture of the residence before choosing April 23, 2026, as his day of execution.

​Providing chilling details on how the operation went down, ACP Anthony Placid noted that the kitchen was weaponized to disable the home’s defenses. Giving a breakdown of the crime, the police lead stated:

​‘’Further investigations established that food prepared within the residence was laced with a suspected sedative substance intended to incapacitate the occupants and security personnel. After the substance took effect, the suspect facilitated the entry of his accomplices into the residence, where the gang vandalised the CCTV monitoring system, ransacked the apartment, and carted away cash alongside twenty luxury wristwatches valued at approximately One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N150,000,000).’’

​The gang’s celebration was short-lived, however, as operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) launched a swift manhunt. The police intercepted the suspects while they were attempting to flee through the Gwagwalada axis en route to Lagos, ValidViewNetwork reports. During the high-stakes interception, operatives successfully recovered an iPhone 17 Pro Max belonging to the victim, alongside a bottle of the suspected chemical substance, which has since been dispatched to a laboratory for forensic analysis, ValidViewNetwork reports.
