ValidViewNetwork gathered that the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Nollywood veteran, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, days after his death on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Musawa announced the visit in a post shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, August 30, 2026, stating that she visited the bereaved family in Lagos.

According to the minister, the visit was an opportunity to honour the legacy of the veteran actor and acknowledge his immense contributions to Nigeria’s film and creative industry.

During the visit, Musawa conveyed what she described as “the deep condolences and heartfelt greetings” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the family on behalf of the Federal Government and the Nigerian people.

She described Ogogo’s passing as a significant loss to his family, colleagues, fans and the wider Nigerian creative community.

“The passing of Ogogo is a great loss to his family, colleagues, fans and the wider Nigerian creative community,” Musawa said in her statement.

Ogogo’s Legacy to Remain Part of Nigeria’s Creative Heritage

ValidViewNetwork understands that the minister paid tribute to the late actor’s remarkable contributions to the growth of Nollywood and the Nigerian arts, emphasising that his work would remain an enduring part of the country’s creative heritage.

“His remarkable contribution to Nollywood and his dedication to the Nigerian arts will remain an important part of our creative heritage,” she said.

Musawa had earlier described Ogogo as more than a movie star, calling him “a custodian of our culture, a proud voice of Yoruba storytelling, and a man who dedicated his life to building the Nigerian creative industry” .

She noted that his works helped celebrate Nigeria’s heritage and project its cultural richness to audiences around the world.

Government to Continue Honouring Creative Icons

ValidViewNetwork further learnt that Musawa, on behalf of her ministry, extended condolences to Ogogo’s family, friends and colleagues, while praying for strength and comfort for them during the period of mourning.

She affirmed that the Federal Government mourned with the family and would continue to honour the legacy of those who had contributed significantly to Nigeria’s creative sector.

“We mourn with the family, we honour his legacy, and we pray for comfort in this difficult time,” the minister said.

She prayed that God would grant the family the strength to bear the painful loss and grant Ogogo’s soul eternal rest.

A Life Well Lived

ValidViewNetwork can report that Ogogo, a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, following a battle with stage-four cancer.

His death has elicited an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and political figures across the country. His burial took place on Monday, August 24, 2026, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites.

The 8th-day Fidau prayer is scheduled for today Monday, August 31, 2026, in Ilaro, while the Odunfa Caucus Fidau prayer will hold on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 40 Odunfa Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos.

A 40-day Artists’ Day in his honour is planned for Friday, October 2, 2026, at The Pavilion in Ilaro.
