The Odogwu Asaba trial moved into evidence on Wednesday, with five prosecution witnesses and video material placed before a Delta State court.

The content creator is charged with rape and manslaughter over the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.

Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, pleaded not guilty on 21 October 2026 before Justice Michael Nduka Obi of the Delta State High Court in Asaba.

ValidViewNetwork reports that he is presumed innocent, and the court has made no finding against him.

WHO TESTIFIED

The five witnesses were Agbro’s twin sister, her brother and her father, the doctor who carried out the post-mortem examination and an investigating police officer.

The family witnesses speak to what the young woman said and did before her death. The doctor and the police officer speak to what investigators found. Reports do not describe the content of the video evidence.

Defence counsel asked for time to study the witnesses’ statements on oath and the additional evidence before preparing the defence.

The prosecution team is led by Delta State Solicitor-General Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, with Director of Public Prosecutions Tejiri Anuhwin.

The case was adjourned to 19 November 2026.

HOW THE CASE REACHED COURT

The case began with a social media invitation. Agbro, a nursing student, travelled from Warri to Asaba on 1 June 2026 to attend what was advertised as a training programme.

After returning home, she told her parents what she said had happened and recorded a video describing it. Her family petitioned the Delta State Commissioner of Police, which led to a police investigation and Ogbonna’s arrest.

A Delta court remanded him at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre on 4 September 2026 after investigators concluded their work.

The autopsy and toxicology results were included in the report prepared for prosecution.

ValidViewNetwork gathered that those results have not been publicly detailed.

WHAT EACH SIDE HAS SAID

The family’s lawyer said a legal opinion found that Ogbonna has a case of rape and manslaughter to answer. His wife has denied the rape allegation and said she would stand by him.

After the plea, the prosecution stressed that he remains presumed innocent under the law.

THE PROBLEM OF PROOF

The case will turn on admissible evidence. One legal analysis noted that the complainant cannot testify, so the prosecution must rely on surrounding evidence, witnesses, digital communications and any admissions.

It added that a recorded video must be authenticated and admitted under the rules of evidence before a court can treat it as proof.

Nigerian courts have often seen public anger run ahead of evidence.

A trial exists to slow that anger down and test it. The court’s task is to decide whether the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, not to satisfy public opinion.

WHAT NEXT

The prosecution is expected to call more witnesses on 19 November. The defence will then begin to test what the court has heard. The Odogwu Asaba trial has only just started, and the verdict will come from the evidence. ValidViewNetwork reports.
